Club Membership

Club Membership
Membership in the Murray Amateur Radio Club is free and open to all. Even though the club is dedicated to Murray City, we are happy to have active members who live outside of the city. All are welcome to come to the club meetings and to participate on the web site and in club activities. Most importantly, you do not have to already be an amateur radio operator to join the club! If you are curious about amateur radio and have some interest in learning about it, come to the club meetings and we'll teach you what you need to know so you can get licensed.

Membership Types

There are three classifications of club members:

  1. Full Membership: Full membership is open to all U.S. licensed Radio Amateurs living within the city boundaries of Murray, Utah. These members are dues-paying members.  Full members receive all club privileges as well as rights to hold a club office and to vote.
  2. Associate Membership: Associate membership is open to those actively engaged in a class leading to an Amateur Radio license and all other interested persons including licensed operators living outside of the city boundaries of Murray, Utah. These members are those that have not paid dues.  Associate members receive all club privileges except for the right to hold office and vote.
  3. Unlicensed Membership:  Membership is open to all non-licensed individuals who wish to participate in club activities. Unlicensed members may not hold a club office or vote in club related business.

Web Site Accounts
Club members have access to some information on the web site that non-members do not get access to (information about other club members, for example). The membership levels on the web site are as follows:

  • Visitors - people viewing the web site who do not have a web site account
  • Guest Members - have access to view most information on the web site and to comment on web site posts
  • Affiliate Members - individuals who have joined MARC but do not live in Murray City, they have access to the Member's Only area.  This may include licensed and unlicensed people
  • Members - individuals live in Murray City and are fully participating members in the club, they have access to the Member’s Only area as well.  This may also include licensed and unlicensed people
  • Charter Members - have been involved with the club since it's early days... otherwise exactly the same as Members

Club Dues and Fees

Due to the demands of running a successful club, it has now been deemed necessary to collect dues.  Dues membership is $20.00 USD collected on a yearly basis.  All dues are 100% tax deductible as we are a 501(c)3 organization.  Members who have donated a substantial monetary donation are exempt from a yearly dues requirement.  All dues collected are used to run the club, specifically, to pay for liability insurance and similar.  No monies collected are used by any officer or member of the club for any reason.  This money is considered sacred and used only in accordance with MARC's policies and procedures.

Fees are sometimes collected, but these are rare and come after a club vote.

Dues will be required until the club has received enough funds to warrant not collecting them... that is our goal.  If anyone has ideas on how we can solicit funds from organizations or other entities, please talk to any member of the club's leadership.  Finding the right person and/or organization that can donate a significant amount will help all of us in the club, and if the donation(s) are significant, we can once again end the requirement of dues collection.

Dues can be paid in cash to any club officer (president, vice-president, secretary, or the treasurer), as well as through Venmo:  @marc-ham-club

Registration
Registration as a member of the club is separate from the web site registration.  There are also some mailing lists that you might want to join and registration for them is also handled separately.  See the Mailing Lists page for more information on the club mailing lists.

If you would like to register for access to the web site, you can do so at the Registration Page.  Please enter a valid e-mail address as your initial password will be sent by e-mail.  If you have a call sign, please enter that in the appropriate field.  This registration will allow you to comment on posts and pages.  If you are also a club member, your site membership will be updated accordingly (it may take a few days for this to happen... you'll get an e-mail from the site when it does).

If you want to become a club member, please fill out the form below.

Enter your FCC issued call sign. If you do not have a call sign (yet), you can leave this field blank.
Enter the best e-mail address for you. Some people set up a special e-mail address just for ham radio use. If you want to do this, do so BEFORE filling in this form.
Enter your address, city, state, zip and any other information needed to get postal mail to you.
Enter the best phone number to reach you.
Check this box if the number supplied above is a cell phone number and you are okay with receiving text messages. Leave it unchecked if not.
Check this box if it is okay for your address, e-mail, and phone number to be published in the club roster (ONLY CLUB MEMBERS CAN SEE THIS INFORMATION). If you do not want to be included in the club directory, uncheck this box.
For our Sunday evening radio net, do you want to be listed in the roll call? If you do not plan to check in to the net very often, uncheck this box, you can still check in as a visitor whenever you can. Also, if you are willing to act as net control for this net periodically, check the appropriate box. Most people on the net have acted as net control at least once... it isn't hard and gives you valuable experience.
Check the appropriate boxes indicating your willingness to help in an emergence (such as an earthquake, flood, or other natural disaster) and your affiliations with ARES and RACES, if any. If you have taken CERT training, please check that box, too.
Include any additional information you think would be helpful to us here. If you have changed e-mail addresses, put a note here including your old e-mail address. If you have already registered for a web site account, let us know your username here. If you have any questions about the form and/or process for keeping the roster up to date, put them here and we'll get back to you.
