Weekly Training Meeting
April 25, 2019 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Show & Tell -
- Gordon brought his new FT-100D, battery, and antenna mounted on a tripod.
- Dave brought his "extra" kit with extra supplies to accompany a go-kit... things like a whistle, measuring tape, extra batteries (AA, AAA, and a spare pack for his radio), pencils, pencil sharpener (you can never find one of those), first aid supplies, extra antenna, multi-meter, tools (hex keys, torx, screwdrivers), some extra coax adapters (handheld to SO-239/PL-259), etc.
- Steve brought his go-kit, mobile antenna, and a pizza pan for a ground plane!
PL tones, which were discussed on last Sunday's net, were reviewed tonight.
Radio programming was discussed so that people can figure out how to program/use their radios. We worked through the Baofeng UV-5 series, Wouxun, and some Yaesu radios that are owned by several club members.
The Murray Shake-out last Friday, April 19th, was discussed. There were some issues encountered trying to use the radios that the city had, and reaching (or being reached by) the IREAN repeater was difficult from several locations. Joey talked about potentially using grant money to set up a repeater on 1.25m for use in the city.
Joey advised that we all sign up for the VECC Emergency Notification System. Get there from the city web site at this URL: https://www.murray.utah.gov/1185/Emergency-Notification-System---Register
Dan would like everyone who has specific repeaters/frequencies that they routinely use to send them to him. We are going to set up a standard set of channels that club members will be using and make sure that everyone is coordinated on what channels correspond to what frequencies.
